Our Reception Class

  Children in our school join us at the beginning of the school year in which they are five.  Those who are five between September 1st and December 31st start full time in September, the remainder coming mornings only until the January term, when they then become full time.  Our maximum admission number is 12.

  At Bodiam we have a dedicated indoor area for our yongest children with a Reception Teacher and a full time, nursery trained, Teaching Assistant.  We also have a safe, secure outdoor play area.  Both are equipped for imaginative, active and exploratory play, with a wide range of quality resources to stimulate interest, nurture curiosity and develop fine and gross motor skills.

  The skills and concepts formed in the early years are the foundations upon which the quality of later learning depends.  They are constructing a framework for learning and for life.  They are embarking on a journey of discovery, the outcome of which cannot be pre-determined.  We enable them to develop socially and emotionally. 

 

  Our braod philosophy is:

*  Each child is valued unconditionally;

*  every child is unique with specific needs and interests;

*children learn through their senses and through interaction with their environment;

*they learn most effectively by doing;

*play is a natural vehicle for learning;

*children need to work at their own pace in  relation to their stage of development, but need realistic challenges;

*the development of the whole child is important. 

  The Early Learning Goals provide the basis for planning throughout the Foundation Stage.  They cover personal, social and emotional development; communication, language and literacy; mathematical development; knowledge and understanding of the world; physical development and creative development.

 

  At Bodiam we encourage parents and carers to become involved in their children's education from the beginning.  It is only by working together that we can bring out the best in our children.  A copy of our Foundation Stage Policy is available on request.
