BODIAM BRINGS OUT THE BEST

Welcome to Bodiam C.E. Primary School's website

  Bodiam C.E. School is a Church of England voluntary controlled day school.  There are 78 children on roll.

The school is set in the beautiful village of Bodiam, adjacent to the imposing 14th century castle of the same name.  It is a small village school and as such it is like a large family where all the children are well known to the adults, are treated as individuals and are encouraged to help one another as they learn to live, work and play together.

  THE AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

Our aim is to combine hight standards with a broad and rich curriculum; to take ownership of the curriculum and make it our own; to be creative and innovative in how we teach and run the school to help every child develop his or her full ptential.  We follow the guidelines as laid down in the DfES documents 'Excellence and Enjoyment - a strategy for primary schools (published 2004) and 'Every Child Matters' (published 2004).

  Through our teaching we aim to:

•  enable children to become confident, resourceful, enquiring and independent learners and give them the skills they need to thrive in an ever changing world;

•  foster children's self-esteem and help them build positive relationships with other people;

•  develop children's moral and spiritual awareness in line with Christian teaching;

•  encourage children to respect the ideas, attitudes, values, faiths, cultures and feelings of all peoples and in so doing, promote positive attitudes towards others;

•  enable children to understand their community and help them to feel valued and involved so that they grow into reliable, independent and positive citizens.

•  teach children to respect all living things, to look after their environment and make it a better place for present and future generations.

  The school is divided into four classes:

Reception (children aged from four to five), Year 1 and 2 (children aged from five to seven); Years 3 and 4 (ages seven to nine) and Years 5 and 6 (ages nine to eleven).

Within each class the children are divided into year and ability groups so that they are taught at the correct level.  Each child is very much an individual and an important member of the school community, but all join together to help each other and make the school an interesting, happy place in which to live and learn.

It is worth noting here that while a child may be in a class for two years, they do not repeat a topic as all foundation subjects are taught on a two year cycle.
